PDO Thread Lift

As specialists in facial rejuvenation, Dr. John Larson and Dr. Phuong Pham understand not everyone is ready for or interested in plastic surgery. They offer a minimally invasive procedure that rejuvenates sagging skin and facial tissues using the body’s natural healing processes. They perform the PDO thread lift in Newport Beach and Temecula using local anesthetic without lengthy incisions or downtime. Come to their boutique-style practice for a personal consultation and straightforward advice on renewing your look on your terms.

What is a thread lift?

A PDO (for polydioxanone) thread lift is a minimally invasive facelift alternative that elevates facial tissues and skin with dissolvable threads inserted beneath the skin with a specialized needle.

In addition to raising tissues and tightening the skin, the threads boost collagen production as they gradually dissolve to increase the skin’s firmness and thickness.

Where can a thread lift be used?

Our surgeons can use threads to lift and rejuvenate any of the following areas:

  • Brows
  • Forehead
  • Mid-face, including the cheeks and nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Jawline
  • Neck

Is threading better than a facelift?

It’s important to understand that thread lift results are not as dramatic or long-lasting as a brow lift, facelift, or neck lift. Results are more subtle. When you need more rejuvenation than BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers can give you, a thread lift can be a good option.

What happens during a PDO thread lift?

Dr. Larson and Dr. Pham perform thread lifts as an office procedure using a local anesthetic. After the targeted areas are numb, the surgeon marks the path for the threads on the skin’s surface. Next, he inserts a thread under the skin with a hollow needle. Once he has reached the endpoint, the surgeon carefully pulls the thread tight to lift the sagging tissue and skin. He repeats the process until all areas are treated.

What is recovery like after a thread lift?

While experiences vary, thread lift recovery is much easier than facelift recovery. Here is a general timeline:

Recovery Timeline

  • Return to work and nonstrenuous activities: 24 hours
  • Swelling and bruising: Develop within 2 to 3 days and last about a week
  • Skin bunching/puckering: Relaxes in about a week
  • Results: Noticeable lifting right away that improves for 4 to 6 months

How long do PDO thread lifts last?

The threads typically dissolve within 6 months; however, improvements last about a year.
