What does BOTOX do?

BOTOX is an injectable cosmetic treatment classified as a neurotoxin because it prevents nerves from communicating with muscles. BOTOX smooths out wrinkles caused by facial muscles (called dynamic wrinkles) by stopping them from contracting. After treated muscles are at rest for a few days, lines and wrinkles in the overlying skin gradually go away.

Is BOTOX better than dermal fillers?

It depends on what you want to address. BOTOX is better for smoothing out dynamic wrinkles, making it a good choice for most wrinkles in the upper face. Dermal fillers add volume under the skin’s surface, making them better for filling in hollows around the eyes and temples, restoring fullness to the cheeks, and smoothing away smile lines and other facial folds. Dr. Pham often recommends a combination of BOTOX and fillers for complete facial rejuvenation.

Is it painful to get BOTOX?

Dr. Pham makes the injections with a short, fine needle, so there is little discomfort. He can also apply topical numbing cream beforehand to calm your nerves if you’d like.

How long until I see BOTOX results?

Expect to notice your lines beginning to fade within 3 to 5 days of treatment and achieve the full benefits in about 10 to 14 days.

Will my BOTOX results look natural?

BOTOX results depend highly on the injector, so it is a good idea to have a plastic surgeon perform this treatment. Dr. Pham has expertise in facial anatomy and how it is affected by BOTOX. He is trained to provide the beautiful results you want without unintended consequences.

How long does BOTOX last?

The smooth, refreshed look from BOTOX lasts about 3 to 4 months. People who have regular treatments may be able to extend this timeline. If you do not have maintenance BOTOX treatments, your lines will gradually return.
