Breast Augmentation With Lift

Breast augmentation can make the breasts bigger, but it doesn’t lift them. A breast lift can take care of sagging, but it doesn’t add volume. Combining the two can give you the improvements you want with a single surgery and recovery period. As breast enhancement specialists, the board-certified plastic surgeons at United Plastic Surgery can give you fuller, shapelier breasts by combining breast lift surgery with implants in Newport Beach and Temecula.

What is a breast augmentation with lift?

Breast augmentation with lift, also called a breast lift with implants, makes the breasts fuller with breast implants and lifts the breasts (and areolas if desired) by removing excess skin and sculpting breast tissue.

What are the benefits of breast augmentation and lift?

Our plastic surgeons combine breast augmentation and breast lift surgery to provide multiple improvements with a single surgery and recovery period. This procedure can enhance the breasts in a variety of ways, including:

  • Removing skin that has lost elasticity
  • Raising the breasts higher on the chest
  • Restoring or increasing breast volume
  • Improving symmetry between the breasts
  • Reshaping stretched, enlarged areolas

Many women include breast augmentation and lift as part of a mommy makeover along with liposuction and a tummy tuck.

How can I customize my surgery?

Breast augmentation with a lift involves the decisions needed for both a breast lift and a breast augmentation.

  • Incisions: Our surgeons typically perform this procedure with the lollipop incision (like breast lift surgery); they may use the anchor incision if there is significant sagging.
  • Implant placement: Breast implants can be placed behind the natural breast tissue or under the chest muscle. In most cases, our surgeons use a dual-plane placement for the implants, which is behind the breast tissue and partially under the chest muscle.
  • Breast implant options: With the help of your surgeon, you’ll choose a personalized combination of implant size, material (silicone or saline), shape, and profile.

Visit our Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift pages for details about implants and surgical options.

How is breast augmentation with lift performed?

Our plastic surgeons perform breast enhancement surgery as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. After making the incisions, the surgeon creates a pocket to insert the breast implant. Next, he shapes the breast tissue to ensure the nipple is in the desired position on the breast. He may reduce the size of the areola as well.

Once he has created the desired breast shape, the surgeon tightens the skin, removes the excess, and closes the incisions with dissolvable sutures below the skin. In some cases, the surgeon uses fat transfer to further enhance the shape of the breast or cleavage area. Once he has completed the procedure, the surgeon places protective tape over the incisions and wraps the breasts with a supportive surgical bra.

How long does it take to heal from a breast lift with implants?

Much like breast augmentation, most patients are ready to return to school, work, and nonstrenuous activities about 2 to 4 weeks after breast lift with implant surgery.

Recovery Timeline

Recovery after breast augmentation and lift depends on the specifics of the surgery and the patient. In general, expect the following milestones and timeline:

  • Soreness and bruising fade: 2 to 3 weeks
  • Swelling dissipates: 2 to 8 weeks
  • Return to work and nonstrenuous activities: 2 to 4 weeks
  • Resume strenuous activities: 6 weeks
  • Final results: 6 to 12 weeks
